Fix PS5 Controller Input Lag

Here are a few fixes that can solve the PS5 input lag issues in detail.

Reset Your Controller

The first thing you can do to solve this issue is reset your controller. Resetting is mainly two types. Hard reset and soft reset.

  1. Soft Reset

To access the Control Center, go to the PS5 home screen and press the PS button on the controller.

  • Then choose accessories.
  • Find and click your controller.
  • From the options, choose Turn Off.
  • Wait for a few minutes, and then reconnect your controller.

Note: You can also turn the controller off by pushing and holding the PS button until the controller lights fade out.

  1. Hard Reset

You can reset the controller using the reset button on the controller.

  • Using a paperclip, press the small reset button on the back of the controller. You should not leave the button pressed for 5 seconds.
  • It will reset the controller, and after that, reconnect the controller.

Note: All the installed firmware upgrades will be removed, and the controller’s basic settings will be reinstated.

Keep Console In Range

The PS5 controller and the console are usually connected through Bluetooth. We know that Bluetooth has a very limited range of access. The controller and the console should be within a maximum range of 6 meters.

If the controller and the console are placed with a long distance in between, then it will cause an input lag. Any hard objects or objects, like a mobile phone or any electronic devices placed between or near the console, can cause interference in a proper connection.

To avoid input lag, always keep the console within range of the controller. There should be nothing to interfere with the proper connection between the controller and the console.

Use USB Connection For Controller

The PS5 controller can connect to the console through Bluetooth and a USB cable. We clearly know that people prefer a wired connection for better connectivity. So here, if we use a USB cable to connect between the PS5 controller and the console, we can solve the input delay issues.

It doesn’t mean that the wireless connection is always bad. Most likely, any other objects will interfere with the wireless connection. The continuity of the game demands a stable connection. This is the reason I prefer the wired connection.

Take a USB cable that you received with the PS5, then connect it between the console’s USB A port and the controller’s USB Type C port.

  • Then open the Settings option and select the Device menu.
  • Go to the Device option, then go to the Communication Method option.
  • Change the communication method to the option Use a USB cable.

However, in order for it to work properly, you must disable Bluetooth. If the Bluetooth option is still enabled, it will increase the interference, and due to that, input lag will occur. More than that, there is no need for a Bluetooth option if you are using a wired connection.

To disable the Bluetooth option,

  • Open the Settings option and choose Accessories.
  • From the menu, go for General.
  • You can see a menu list and scroll it down.
  • Choose the option to turn off Bluetooth.

Now your PS5 will restart itself.

Power Cycle PS5 Console

Power-cycling the PS5 console can solve many problems, including the input lag. This process won’t delete the data. This will clear the system cache and temporary memory.

  • Unplug the power cords from the outlet first.
  • Find the power button on the PS5 console. For 15 to 20 seconds, press and hold the power button and leave it on until the white LED stops blinking.
  • After unplugging the power cable, wait a while.
  • In order to turn it on, re-plug the power cable into the power outlet.
  • Check the PS5 controller to determine whether it’s functioning properly after turning on the console.

  • Once finished, restart your PS5 system, and you’re ready to go.
